Manually Importing Jobs (Advanced)
Before reading this article please make sure you’ve read the support article for manually Importing jobs in basic mode and to learn how to switch between basic/advanced modes.
The advanced mode gives more control over the jobs being imported, since it allows to customize such things as:
- editing provider details
- adding URL parameters jobs URL’s
- editing the default value for all custom fields assigned to jobs
- filtering jobs by date
- filtering jobs by positive, negative keywords
But before we go through all these extra advanced options, there’s also an option that is available in both basic/advanced modes that wasn’t detailed on the previous article, which is the Feed Builder, detailed below.
The Feed Builder
This feature is available for several pre-set providers. It is not available for custom feeds. It allows to easily customize your feed just by filling in the available fields. You’ll see the feed builder when you choose a compatible provider from the pre-set list:

From the screenshot above, note how the keyword and location added to the respective fields are instantly added to the feed. When you’re happy with it, you can just click the link to copy it to the feed URL to load it (*).
(*) Note that the fields available on the Feed Builder can vary between providers.
Mapping Fields
After loading a feed you’ll be able to see a sample table with the number of jobs found and a list of fields found on the feed and their respective value.
Fields will vary between providers. You’ll be able to map them to any fields you use on your jobs post type.
As an example, if you have a field called ‘My Custom Company Name Field‘ and you wanted to fill it with the ‘Company’ field value from the feed you would select ‘My Custom Company Name Field’ from the ‘Company’ dropdown.

The fields dropdown will only display custom fields if you already have ‘regular’ submitted jobs. If you don’t have any jobs before you start imports its is suggested that you manually publish a dummy job with as much custom fields filled as possible so that they are displayed on the dropdowns.
Provider Details
As the name suggests, this group o fields allows editing the details for the current feed provider. This information is used on your single job page, to credit the job provider (job source) as you can see below:

With the information above the single job page would look like this:

Please remember that imported jobs do not have an application email that applicants can apply to. The imported job source URL is the only form of application.
It is not recommended to change de providers defaults or clear any info. If for some reason you need to edit the information as it is displayed, click Edit and the fields will become editable. You can revert back to the defaults by clicking the the icon to the right of each field:

URL Parameters (premium plans)
The URL parameters field can be very useful if you need the pass additional parameters to the external job URL’s to track data. For example, imagine you had a partnership with a job provider that pays you for every user that comes from your site. You could set a parameter on this field like this:

Custom Fields
Here you can set all default values for all the meta fields available for a job and also feature jobs:

The values you set here will be assigned by default to to ALL imported jobs, unless the current feed already provides any compatible field (company, location or logo) with values.
As an example, imagine that the feed you are using contains some jobs with location “Manchester” and you set the default location to “London“. The importer will use each job location (if available) and default to “London” for the jobs that don’t contain a location. The same applies to the other recognized fields (company, location or logo).
To edit any of the fields, click Edit:

Here’s some detail on each of the editable fields. Remember, these are the default values for ALL jobs being imported for the current feed:
- Featured
- Checking this option will feature the imported jobs
- Job Applications (not recommended)
- If you want to allow your users to apply to jobs using a regular email address instead of the default application URL used for imported jobs you can set an email address here. All job applications will then be sent to this email address. Useful if you have any partnership with a provider and can manage their job applications.
- Expiry Date
- The jobs expiry date. It is calculated based on your settings jobs duration (default is 30 days).
- Location
- The location for the jobs. It uses Google Maps.
- Company
- The Job Company name.
- Logo
- The Job Company logo.
- Website
- The Job Company website URL
- Tagline
- The Job Company tagline
- Video
- The Job Company video
- Twitter
- The Job Company Twitter handle
Filters
All options that you change until this point can be saved on a template that you can later load again to repeat the import or to assign to schedules. Filters are not saved and are meant to be used on a case by case basis.
Filtering Jobs (Limit)
Here you can set a limit for the jobs being imported. The default value is 20, but you can increase/decrease it depending on the total jobs available on the feed:

Filtering Jobs (by Date) (premium plans only)
Use this filter to get jobs in a feed from a specific date.

Filtering Jobs (by Positive/Negative Keywords) (premium plans)
If you need to have more control over the jobs being imported to make sure they contain certain keywords and/or exclude others use this filter:

You can add any comma separated keywords to each of the fields.
As an example, assume you only want to import “sales manager” related jobs. You would set the ‘Positive Keywords’ to “sales manager“. If you needed to exclude those jobs you would add them to ‘Negative Keywords’. The importer would only include/exclude jobs that contained BOTH keywords together.
In case you needed to filter all jobs that include/exclude “sales” OR “manager” you would need to separate them using a comma like: “sales, manager“. The importer would include/exclude any jobs that contain “sales” OR “manager“.
Of course you can use both keyword types to include certain jobs and exclude others. Example, include “manager, sales” exclude “marketing manager“. This would tell the importer to include all jobs that contain the “manager” OR “sales” but exclude jobs that contain “marketing manager” together.
You’re ready to control your imports!
